Mission Statement

The National Association of Beverage Importers, Inc. (NABI) is a national, tax exempt, trade association representing U.S. importers of alcohol beverages (beer, wine and distilled spirits).

The mission of NABI is as follows:

1.  Primary Mission – To represent the interests of importers of alcohol beverages on issues that have a principal impact on importers. Because
many importer members of NABI are also engaged in domestic alcohol beverage production, marketing, etc., as well as export activity, NABI
will monitor issues related to those activities and will act when appropriate. NABI will direct its time and efforts towards working on issues at
the Federal and state levels dealing with trade; trade barriers; legislative action and regulatory practices related to imports and the process of
importation. The objective of NABI will be to foster free trade, and the development of a political climate conductive to the importation of
      alcohol beverages.

2.  Secondary Mission – To cooperate with other trade associations on issues that impact all alcohol beverages whether imported or domestic.
NABI will support these associations on matters of mutual interest such as excise taxes; warning labels; responsible consumption policy and
other health and safety issues; and in gaining access to foreign markets. NABI will act when it is in the best interest of its members, on any
      issue, whether import or domestic.

Policy Guide

In order to accomplish its mission and objectives, NABI will function in accordance with the following policy guidelines:

•   Lead the initiative to protect the interests of authorized importers on Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, U.S. Customs and Border
Protection issues, trade regulation and legislation, and issues such as “gray marketing.”

•   Develop and maintain liaison with embassies in Washington for the purpose of coordinating work on political, legislative and regulatory issues
affecting imported and exported alcohol beverages.

•   Work with U.S. government agencies to ensure that regulatory and procedural requirements are fair and necessary. The primary objective is
to eliminate where possible all unnecessary regulations and restrictions on the importation of alcohol beverages.

•   Develop and maintain communication with U.S. government agencies involved in U.S. trade policy. The primary objective of this initiative is to
try to protect alcohol beverages from becoming targets for retaliation in trade disputes.

•   Maintain and disseminate to members statistical data on alcohol beverage imports.

•   Provide regulatory guidance to members and analysis on key issues where appropriate.

•   Work with representatives of trade associations of foreign suppliers to coordinate efforts on issues of mutual interest.

•   Work with other trade associations on state and Federal issues that are of interest to alcohol beverage importers, and to act on those issues
when it is in the best interest of NABI members.
